Module One —Managing projects
The first module provides an overview of the principles, skills and techniques required for effective project management. You will look at the history of project management, definitions, the functional approach to project management, Management vs Project Management and the profile of a successful project manager.
Module Two — Project planning, control and scope definition
This module aims to convey a working knowledge of the principles of project scope, definition, planning and control. Areas of focus are the need for planning, understanding the big picture, managing change and project close-out.
Module Three — Time, costs and estimates
Provides an understanding of what work is to be done, the time in which it is to be performed, and the resources required to achieve the objective. You will be exposed to methods of pulling the schedule together, use of resources at your disposal and estimating techniques.
Module Four — Principles and practices of quality
Gain the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to manage quality in a project environment. You will look at issues such as Quality Assurance vs Quality Control, quality planning and quality management throughout the project’s lifecycle.
Module Five — Managing risk
Module 5 covers the principles of risk analysis and control. You will learn about the psychology of risk, methodologies for managing risk, risk analysis, identifying risk and assessing the outcomes.
Module Six — Managing communications
Provides you with a working knowledge of the skills and procedures required to successfully provide effective communications management. Some of the topics covered involve creating the communications management plan, reports and reviews, interpersonal communications and negotiations.
Module Seven — Leading the project team
As a Project Manager you will need to manage the performance of teams in the project environment. You will learn about managing the project’s ‘human’ resources, selecting the project team, applying the principles of leadership and motivating the project team.
Module Eight — Managing costs
The aim of the cost management module is twofold. First, to provide you with a working knowledge of PM cost management responsibility including estimates and budgeting. Second, to familiarise you with the main organisational influences on cost management:
- Financial accounting system links
- Project pricing
- Cost management best practice
Module Nine — Managing procurement
Acquire an understanding of the principles required for the efficient development, negotiation, management and administration of contracts in the project environment. Specifically you will look at the procurement management plan, selecting the source, contract development, types of contract, contract management and administration, and finalising the contract.
Module Ten — Integration, finalisation and issues
The final module covers the project management methodologies, techniques and tools to achieve workable plans and control mechanisms. The content focuses on finalisation methodologies, integration and the project environment, control measures and the Project Completion Report.
